The Pals of 42
A website dedicated to all those who served at 42 Command, REME Workshops
Now and again, when I meet folk who were employed at 'The Barracks', I am often impressed by their fond memories of the place, the people, the good, the bad, the ugly and the downright weird. A place with more than the average amount of eccentrics for an establishment of its size.
So
If you have any memories of your time there, the folk, their oddities, the crazy incidents like the annual Sports Day, when we were chauffeured there by good old Lionel Day and inevitably becoming lost with the help of Albert 'leave it with me' Monks. The time, Brian McLeod, with his new rock band, FIRST TYME ROUND, drove the C.O. from the Christmas dance and when Major Newlove asked La Scouse why he was wearing "that silly hat." Scouse answered "at least I can take it off, which is more than you can do with that face!". Who remembers the occasion when Alan Mayle found some potatoes that had dropped from a passing lorry - and he lunched on them for weeks?
The are many, many more tales to be told, and if you have a contribution or two to share, maybe a photo two, or would like to contact some old pals, and perhaps find out what became of them. I can't promise anything: but please email me. lets see what happens.
